KitchenAid’s Brief History.

Nearly 90 years ago, KitchenAid’s innovative appliances brought convenience to American homes and kitchens throughout United States.  From food recipes to innovative kitchen appliances, like the blender, KitchenAid has brought a unique component to cooking and preparing foods.

In 1908 an engineer was watching baker mix bread dough with an iron spoon.  Convinced there had to be a better and faster way, the engineer set to work developing and 88 quart electric stand mixer.  Less than seven years later, bakers across the country had an easier and more efficient way of getting the hob done.

The amazing new labor-saving KitchenAid Appliance, mixer, caught on so quickly, the US Navy ordered mixers for three of it's battleships. By 1917, the stand mixer was classified as “regular equipment” on all US Navy ships.  The products overwhelming success prompted engineers to design a smaller appliance that could be used in home kitchens.  But World War 1 interfered and the appliance would have to wait until better times returned to the United States..

In 1918, Troy Metal Products Company restarted its manufacturing research and development and designed the Model H-5 stand mixer – the first portable electric food preparer for the home.  Wives of company executives were commissioned to test the initial prototypes.  After a successful testing one of the wives exclaimed “I don’t care what you call the appliance but I know it’s the best kitchen aid I have ever used!”  An appliance brand name was born, and the first portable KitchenAid  mixer was unveiled to the American consumer.
