What was started out as a failed business venture, a manually operated wringing machine, with the advent of electricity, was transformed into a successful washing machine manufacturing business.
With the company’s commitment to quality control and honoring of its equipment warranty, early mechanical problems were solved and orders of one of the first electrical automatic washing machines flourished. Through as strong and aggressive research and development the company merged with other partners and expanded their product line into other laundry and kitchen appliances.
In the 1940’s manufacturing was halted by world war II and most facilities were converted to assist in the war effort. When appliance manufacturing resumed in 1945 the Whirlpool Corporation brand was born and whirlpool’s sales exceeded all predictions.
In the 50’s Whirlpool merged with other appliance companies and thus acquired refrigerator, oven, and range technology, which further grew the company and sales.
In the 70’s, with Whirlpool becoming the dominant kitchen and laundry appliance manufacturing company, emphasis was placed on environment control to focus on a cleaner more cost and energy efficient appliance.
In the 1960’s,Whirlpool began expanding to such countries as Mexico, India, Europe, and Africa which solidified it’s appliance leadership by supplying washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, and ovens.
